AFI Prepares to Invade Vic Theatre Twice
By Randy J. Klodz
AFI, short for A Fire Inside, a rock band with a punk edge and a bit
of a dark image, drew the praise of critics, fans and everybody in between
upon the 2003 release of “Sing the Sorrow,” the band’s successful major label
debut. Now out with a new album, AFI is prepared to attract more fans, and
build upon a dedicated fan base in which has surrounded this California-based
band for well over a decade. The band’s first tour in support of the new release
will hit Chicago’s Vic Theatre on July 7 and July 8.
AFI—which includes Davey Havok (vocals), Jade Puget (guitar), Hunter
(bass) and Adam Carson (drums)—will hit the road in support of its latest
album “Decemberunderground,” which hit stores June 6.
New fans may have flocked to such AFI singles as “Girl’s Not Grey,” “The
Leaving Song Pt. II” and “Silver and Cold,” while many old-school AFI fans
have enjoyed such early albums as “The Art of Drowning,” “Answer That and
Stay Fashionable,” “Black Sails in the Sunset” and others. AFI has also contributed
to countless complications.
The first single from “Decemberunderground,” called “Miss Murder,” has
blown up modern rock radio waves nationwide and portions of the song’s music
video are often played in between shows in MTV’s late-night lineup.
Other songs from “Decemberunderground” that are sure to be enjoyed by
AFI fans include “Endlessly, She Said,” “Kill Caustic,” “Kiss and Control”
and “The Missing Frame.” “The Interview” features a mellow and often beautiful
vibe that is sure to draw attention from AFI fans and purveyors of rock music
Vic Theatre is at 3145 N. Sheffield Ave. Tickets for each of these all-ages
shows are listed for $22 each with showtimes for both slated for 7:30 p.m.
