Saddle Creek’s Criteria to Hit Beat Kitchen

By Randy J. Klodz

It’s rare that rockers emerge from the job force as an attorney, but Criteria singer and guitarist Stephen Pedersen earned his stripes at Duke University School of Law. His Saddle Creek rock band Criteria will play Chicago’s Beat Kitchen on Jan. 14.

Criteria—which features Pedersen, Aaron Druery (guitar), A.J. Mogis (bass), and Mike Sweeney (drums)—is on tour in support of its latest album “When We Break,” which hit stores in August of 2005.

For those not familiar with Criteria, a concoction of mainstream bands like the soaring and anthem-like vocals of Jimmy Eat World, the glum yet fun of Weezer and the rock decibel level of Sparta can all be used to describe Criteria’s current hit song “Prevent the World.” The video for the track has been a popular selection on Fuse, and other media outlets.

Beat Kitchen is at 2100 W. Belmont Ave in Chicago. Tickets for this all-ages show are listed for $8 each in advance with showtime scheduled for 7 p.m. Bands Lying in States, Modern Temper and Hirudin are also scheduled to perform. For more info on Criteria log on to www.criteriamusic.com.
