Deadboy and the Elephantmen to Play Schubas Tavern

By Randy J. Klodz

Sure, with a name like Deadboy and the Elephantmen, a few heads may be turned. Rest assured Deadboy and the Elephantmen is not a metal band with a depressing name, it’s an indie-rock sounding band with a depressing name. Now on tour, Deadboy and the Elephantmen will play Chicago’s Schubas Tavern on Dec. 10.

Deadboy and the Elephantmen, which is primarily a duo that features Dax Riggs (vocals, guitar) and Tessie Brunet (backing vocals, drums) released the full-length album “We Are Night Sky” in October.

“We Are Night Sky” kicks off with the driving rocker “Stop, I’m Already Dead” setting a no-frills tone to the album.

The tracks “Blood Music,” “Evil Friend,” “Kissed By Lightning” and “What the Stars Have Eaten” rock steadily to the tune of Beck meets a lighter version of Nirvana’s “In Utero” period.

Slow strummers like “Dressed in Smoke,” “No Rainbow” and “Walking Stick” give way to the high-low refrain of “How Long the Night Was” adding balance to an album that can be listened to from start to finish.

Schubas is at 3159 N. Southport Tickets for this 21+ show are listed for $8 each in advance with showtime scheduled for 10 p.m. Bands the Manners and Deathships are also scheduled to perform. For more info on Deadboy and the Elephantmen log on to deadboyandtheelephantmen.com.
