Finnish Rockers HIM to Invade Congress Theatre

By Randy J. Klodz

Sure, the gothic and often dark appearance of Finnish rock band HIM may intimidate many, but the band’s catchy, hook-laden rock sound is sure to garner a U.S. following to rival its fervent overseas buzz. Chicago will get its most recent chance to see HIM perform in concert when the band plays Congress Theatre on May 17.

HIM, which includes--Ville Valo (vocals), Linde Lindstrom (guitar), Mige Amour (bass), Gas Lipstick (drums) and Emerson Burton (keyboards)--is on tour in support of the band’s latest album “Dark Light” which hit stores last September.

Music fans new to the band may recall the affinity professional skateboarder Bam Margera, also star of MTV’s “Viva La Bam.” has for HIM. Viewers of MTV may have also seen the clip for the first single for “Dark Light” called “Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly”

The album’s second single “Killing Loneliness” has also seen its share of airplay as fans across the nation gravitate toward Valo’s steady and often soothing singing voice.

Other songs like “Behind the Crimson Door,” “Drunk on Shadows” and “The Face of God” are also sure to draw the attention of fans nationwide.

Congress Theatre is at 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave. Tickets for this all-ages show are listed for $28.50 each with showtime slated for 6 p.m. Rock band Aiden is scheduled as support. For more info on HIM log on to
