Comedian Jim Gaffigan Prepares to Thrill Chicago Theatre

By Randy J. Klodz

You’ve seen him in movies, on Comedy Central, and in recent Sierra Mist commercials alongside funny people Michael Ian Black and Kathy Griffin (most recently during the Super Bowl with the beard comb-over), and now, Indiana-bred funnyman Jim Gaffigan has taken his stand-up show across the nation. His now infamous Comedy Central-sponsored “Beyond the Pale” tour brings him to Chicago Theatre for two shows on March 3.

As a stand-up comic, Jim Gaffigan creates laughs through his observations about everyday life, all the while throwing in character voices to emphasize his point. Take his bit on the Hot Pockets brand microwavable snack food. One of Gaffigan’s best known stand-up comedy bits stems from his observations on Hot Pockets, where after hitting his punch line, he says “Hot Pocket” or “Caliente Pocket” in a high-pitched voice. Funny stuff indeed, without being annoying or incessantly repetitive like many other popular comics today.

In the acting world, Gaffigan can be spotted as a cast member on the TBC comedy series “My Boys” and his work can be found on syndicated series like “Sex and the City,” “That 70’s Show,” and other reputable projects. And, no, he is not Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Gaffigan’s ambitious talents also pair him with “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” host Conan O’Brien in an animated series found on www.nbc.com called “Pale Force.”

Chicago Theatre is at 175 N. State St. Tickets for each of these all-ages shows are listed for $39.75 each Show start times listed include 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. For more info on Jim Gaffigan log on to www.jimgaffigan.com.
