Static-X Returns to Ozzfest, Chicago Area

By Randy J. Klodz

With a new album in stores, Los Angeles-based hard-rock band Static-X is yet again ready to rock the Ozzfest mainstage alongside legendary rocker and longtime tour headliner Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzfest, the annual celebration of hard-rock and metal, crashes through the Chicago area Aug. 10 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre.

Static-X—which now includes Wayne Static (vocals, guitar, programming), Koichi Fukuda (guitar), Tony Campos (bass) and Nick Oshiro (drums)—is on tour in support of its latest album “Cannibal” which hit stores in April.

The members of Static-X had been rocking hard and touring starting in 1994 and gained the attention of hard-rock and metal fans worldwide with the 1999 album “Wisconsin Death Trip,” the band’s most popular album to date.

Previous songs like “Cold,” “I’m With Stupid,” “Push It” and “This is Not” have helped put Static-X on the map—and the charts. A dedicated tour regiment also keeps Static-X a fan favorite in hard-rock.

The band’s hard-hitting “Cannibal” is music to the ears of fans of metal. Wayne Static continues his growling and spastic vocals to fully complement the thrashing guitars, and often video game-sounding backbeats.

“Chemical Logic” with its robotic, looping background vocals hits hard as does the pulsating title track.

The album’s second single, “Destroyer” offers a slower pace with a catchy “Oh, you do it again / You do it again / Destroyer” chorus and songs like “Behemoth,” “Forty Ways,” “Goat,” “No Submission” and “Team Hate” will keep the heads of metal fans banging.

First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre is at 19100 S. Ridgeland Ave. in south-suburban Tinley Park. Tickets were made available to Ozzfest fans for free of charge via various sponsor Web sites. Fellow rockers Behemoth, DevilDriver, Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Lordi, and many others are also scheduled to perform. For more information on Static-X log on to Check out more of Ozzfest at
